We said farewell to Prime Minister
Gough Whitlam on October 21, and
tragically lost cricketer Phillip Hughes
on November 27. Other notable deaths
included Robin Williams on August 11,
Phillip Seymour Hoffman on February 2
and poet, author and civil rights activist
Maya Angelou on May 28.
But 2014 also saw lots of life and love
come into the world. Mila Kunis and
Ashton Kutcher welcomed their first child,
Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher, on October 1.
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes had their
first child together, Esmerelda Amada,
on September 12.
The world's favourite bachelor George
Clooney is officially off the market
following his elaborate Venice wedding in
September to lawyer, activist, and
author Amal Alamuddin.
After 10 years together, Angelina Jolie
and Brad Pitt wed in France in August.
The bride wore a Versace dress,
which each of the couple's six adopted
and biological children created an
embroidered drawing on.
In the world of pop culture, there were
some big hits in 2014. Pharell Williams'
Happy had toes tapping and was the
highest selling single on the ARIA charts
followed by Meghan Trainor's All About
That Bass and Taylor Swift's Shake it Off.
Transformers: Age of Extinction was the
highest grossing film of the year, making
more than $1 billion at the box office.
It was followed by The Hobbit:
The Battle of the Five Armies, Guardians
of the Galaxy and Maleficent.
