Even though she has coordinated a
lot of the community's involvement in
the Multicultural Festival, Emiliana will
not reap the benefits this year, as she is
returning to Fiji in December.
"My husband is in Suva helping to
establish a national university," she
"I think we are freer now, to return to
Fiji and do something like this. All of our
children are settled and they love it here.
They see this place as their home."
Despite admitting she is "more or less
an Australian now", Emiliana said she is
looking forward to her homecoming, with
plans to stay in Fiji for at least a year.
"I know that politically Fiji is still
problematic, although I was there in June
and I did not see what is in the media.
"I think it's people like us who return,
that must be smart and not rock the boat."
Emiliana Afeaki is just one of the many
