June last year was the first time in
nine years that the Australian Rugby
Union (ARU) had taken a Test match to
Canberra Stadium, and when the Wallabies
met with Italy there seemed little doubt
they'd come back again one day.
It was this experience, said QANTAS
Wallabies' head coach Robbie Deans,
which weighed heavily in Canberra's
favour when it came to deciding where
the 2010 Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series
debut Test match against Fiji would be
staged on June 5.
" e response to the (Australia versus
Italy) game from the local community
was outstanding. While it was a cold
night, the stadium was nearly full,"
"I know all of the players are looking
forward to coming back to Canberra and
I'm sure the local Australian-based Fijian
community will be able to get behind
their team in far greater numbers than
their Italian counterparts were able to
muster last year."
As their coach and mentor, Robbie
Deans has made a major impact on the
