WODEN Valley is set to buzz with
excitement next month when the week-
long Woden Alive festival commen-
Various events and activities will
feature during the celebration, includ-
ing free workshops, business
discounts, singer-songwriter compe-
titions and a cooking master class.
The master class will be conducted
by Masterchef judge and restaurateur
George Calombaris at the Hellenic
Club and festival organiser Ben
Trudinger said the event was named in
"[It's] called dinner with George
Calombaris," he said.
There will also be the Liftoff youth
music festival at Eddison Park, the
Australian rugby choir at the Woden
Tradies, a multicultural global kitchen
at Lyons Early Childhood School, a
Movember barbecue and fitness day at
the Southern Cross Health Club, plus a
great variety of local cafes and
businesses will showcase their own
Australia's Got Talent finalist Timo-
matic will also thrill the audience with
a performance at the event.
Mr Trudinger said the idea for a
week-long festival came about in order
for more community groups and
businesses to be involved.
"It's for groups who couldn't be
involved in the one-day festival," he
The festival will commence on
October 30 within Woden Valley and
finish with the annual one-day Woden
Festival on November 5.
Mr Trudinger said Woden Alive
aimed to showcase the depth and the
potential of the Woden Valley area.
"[It's the] cafes and some of the
cultural hubs that exist in the Woden
Valley that aren't necessarily well
known by the wider Canberra com-
munity," he said.
"It's to represent what they're about.
"We're trying to present this more
diverse side of Woden and I guess that
ties in with the business community.
"We've got some very supportive
sponsors who are really engaged with
the event this year.
"This ties in nicely with also
presenting some of the regional hubs
around the place."
