THOUSANDS of Canberrans are expec-
ted to lace up their skates and take to the
roller skating rink in Garema Place this

the popular Skate in the City last winter.
Canberra CBD Ltd chief executive
Stephen Gregory said the new initiative
was set to bring thousands of people into
the city centre in a bid to boost visitors to
Garema Place shops and restaurants.
"We had 19,484 people for the ice
skating over four weeks. We'd expect to
exceed that with the roller skating given
that it's warmer and it's school holidays,"
"Because it's school holidays it's the
perfect time for parents with kids."
This time the rink has been extended to
provide room for children learning to
roller skate. Palm trees, disco balls,
colourful lights and mist fans all add to
the colourful design of the temporary

a lot of fun," Mr Gregory said.
A number of PG retro movies will be
shown during night skating sessions
including Grease, Roller Boogie and
Xanadu, but Mr Gregory said screening
