THERE was plenty of revving and
smoky tyre-shredding as Sum-
mernats 25 blasted through the Terri-
tory over the weekend.
More than 90,000 people from across
the country attended the four-day event.
Despite speculation this would be the
final time mass burnouts and horse-
power heroics would feature at Exhi-
bition Park, Summernats co-owner
Andy Lopez announced the festival
would return next year.
"We've committed to 2013 to give
ourselves the proper amount of time to
finalise our negotiations with the ACT
Government. Our intent and desire is to
stay here in the ACT at Exhibition
Park," Mr Lopez said.
Highlights of the festival included
the return of the City Cruise, where 200
entrants showed off their street machin-
es to thousands of spectators lining
Family Friday also attracted plenty of
youngsters to Summernats.
Daniel and Christie Lowe were
happy to travel from Orange to bring
their toddler Taiya to the 'Nats for the
Mr Lowe said the event had certainly
changed since he first came to appreci-
ate the cars.
"I love the cars and it's a good family
thing now," he said.
Canberran Stevan Sykes decided to
enter the Summernats after buying his
ute about nine months ago.
"I've been here for five years but this
is my first year as an entrant," he said.
Local resident Ben Sargent was the
overall winner of Summernats 25
taking out the Grand Champion award
with his 1971 Holden Monaro HQ
