Owner confirms Nun
will be all-new bar
Gaul says All

THE owners of All Bar Nun are already looking at a new
location for the popular bar which was forced to close its
doors on Sunday.
One of four owners, Daniel Gaul said there had been
a demand for more pubs under the All Bar Nun model
since it opened at the O'Connor shops in 1996.
''The idea was to continue to grow All Bar Nun as a
brand and sort of look at different locations and even
look outside of Canberra to Sydney and Melbourne,'' he
The sudden order to vacate by February 1 had delayed
-- but not stopped -- plans.
''We've decided as a group to hold the name and then
look for a suitable venue that's a similar style to
O'Connor and reigniting All Bar Nun,'' Mr Gaul said.
Mr Gaul owns All Bar Nun with brothers Andrew and
Dan Kenny and Bruce Thornton. Together they had been
trying to secure a new lease for the bar since the sale of
the building to new owners in late 2011.
Mr Gaul had hoped that because they had been there
for almost 14 years that would have been taken into
consideration and they could have stayed.
''You'd think the landlords would take you into
consideration moving forward with the premises,'' he
Mr Gaul said the owners had approached the new
landlords to find out where they stood.
''We put forward several ideas that included drawing
plans and ideas for them upstairs, what they could do
with it,'' he said. ''We were going to work with them and
even downsize this [All Bar Nun] a bit to cater for
whatever ideas that had for the building.''
The original lease was for 15 years and was due to
expire in September, but with no prospect of having it
renewed they were forced into surrendering the lease.
''That gives us two days to get cleaned up and sort of
do what we can to salvage whatever we own,'' Mr Gaul
Despite the sudden closure, Mr Gaul remains positive
about the prospect of opening a new All Bar Nun in the
near future. However he said the location would have to
be similar to O'Connor for the model to work well.
''The community here in O'Connor are fabulous --
they've really embraced this place through the good
times and bad times,'' he said.
Until a location is chosen the four owners will have
their hands full with their own ventures. Mr Gaul owns
Siren in Gungahlin, and Andrew and Dan Kenny are
about to open a cafe and bar called Gryphons at the
