THE ACT government has forced a
family with three young children to
suffer through winter with tarpaulins in
place of their home's roof.
Casten Makochekanwa made four
trips to the hospital with sick family
members in one week this winter
because 80 per cent of his home's roof
has been missing since December.
The government issued a stop work
notice on the home's renovations in
January after determining that the
builder had commenced work prior to
receiving the necessary approval from
the Environment and Sustainable
Dr Makochekanwa said directorate
staff told him at the time that they
would find a builder to complete the
''Staff ... informed us that before
rectification work could commence on
our home, they required builders'
quotes and delegate approval,'' he
''[They] informed us that this was a
straight forward process and that we
could expect work to commence in the
very near future.''
After six months and numerous
delays, a contractor and government
officers finally visited the Makoche-
kanwa family on Friday [July 13] to
make arrangements for work to
