One of those sporting clubs is the Ginninderra
Little Athletics Club, which has experienced a
huge boost in participation this year.
President Steven Dodt said restoration at
Charnwood Oval had not only assisted little
athletics but cricket and football clubs as well.
''The oval for many years suffered immensely
from weather and neglect,'' Mr Dodt said.
''However, recently the ACT government in
partnership with Ginninderra Little Athletics
Club and our sponsors had produced the best
grass athletics oval in the ACT.''
The oval is now able to host the Northside
Regional Athletics Championships each year. Mr
Dodt said that was something that had not been
possible for more than a decade.
The restoration has also given the oval discus
throw cages, permanent shot put circles, a
dedicated area for tiny tots, four long jump pits
and three running tracks with electronic timing
Mr Dodt said participation numbers at the club
had grown significantly.
''Ginninderra has seen its numbers swell by
over a third with over 380 kids enjoying Little
Athletics at Charnwood every Saturday,'' he said.
